Common questions

Questions, Answered.

Everything you need to know about Paint Protection Film, coverage options and getting started with Payne Protection Film.

What is Paint Protection Film?

Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a clear, self-healing urethane layer applied over a vehicle’s factory paint to absorb the damage the road does to it. It takes the rock chips, road debris, insect etching and light scratches that would otherwise reach the paint, and it does so without changing how the car looks.

Fitted properly, the film follows the panel and its edges are wrapped or trimmed so the line disappears. It is not a coating and not a vinyl wrap: a ceramic coating adds gloss and makes cleaning easier but offers no impact protection, and a wrap changes the colour. PPF is the only one of the three that physically stops a stone chip.

How much does PPF cost?

At Payne Protection Film, paint protection film starts at $1,099 for Partial Protection, $1,999 for Full Front Protection, $2,499 for Extended Protection and $4,999 for Full Coverage.

Those are starting figures, not fixed prices. What moves them is the vehicle: panel size and shape, how many separate pieces a panel needs, whether there is existing film or damage to deal with first, and how much of the car you want covered. A compact coupe and a long-wheelbase SUV are not the same job at the same coverage level.

We do not quote a final price online, because a number produced without seeing the car is a guess. Tell us the year, make and model and we will give you a real one.

What areas can you protect?

The six areas we most often fit are the hood, fenders, mirrors, rocker panels, the front end, or the full vehicle.

Most drivers start at the front, because that is where the road throws everything: the leading edge of the hood, the bumper and the mirror caps take the majority of stone chips. Rocker panels and the area behind the wheels are next, since they catch grit thrown up by the tyres. Full coverage extends the same film to every painted panel.

Coverage is not all-or-nothing. If a specific panel matters to you – a door edge, a loading area, a spoiler – say so and we will build the package around it.

Is PPF worth it for a new car?

PPF is one of the best purchases you can make for a new vehicle. Once installed, it protects the new finish on your car: the film goes to work keeping rocks, bugs and other hazards from wearing away the paint.

It also adds value. When it is time to trade or sell, the film you had installed can be the difference between “average” and “above average” condition. That could mean an increased value of at least $1,500, practically reimbursing you for your investment.

Can you remove existing PPF?

Yes, PPF is removable. Film showing signs of wear can be removed to reveal paint that looks like new — that is the sole purpose of installing it in the first place.

Here at Payne Protection Film we remove film for clients weekly, uncovering original paint in pristine condition.

How do I get a quote?

Call 864-901-2091, email [email protected], or send the form on our contact page with your vehicle year, make and model.

There is no online checkout and no instant quote tool, deliberately. We are a small shop in Greenville, South Carolina, serving the Upstate since 2003, and every job starts as a conversation about the car and how you actually use it. Tell us that and you get a real figure and a realistic timescale rather than a placeholder.

You are welcome to bring the vehicle to 2 N. Kings Rd, Greenville, SC 29605 so we can look at it together.
